The Cabin.

The Little Retreat in the Forest is your Canadian secluded, magical forest escape. A very short drive north of beautiful Gimli, hidden down a long winding driveway. Pup friendly.

Nestled in the spruce, with all the amenities of a small, suburban style house including a full kitchen, a woodstove, hammocks, fire pits, hiking trails, swimming/skating pond, snowshoeing, our vinyl collection, and, as John Prine told us to do, we moved to the country and threw out the TV.

There is much more detailed information provided about the cabin, amenities, and all your FAQ directly in the Airbnb listing.

Also as it says on the main page there, we use the Airbnb App for scheduling purposes, but that Airbnb fee is gone, we absorb it for you (it’s about 15% of the booking according to the App) so we pay that instead of you paying it when you book.

Welcome to the Cabin!

We have created a place where you can retreat, restore, disconnect, chop wood, walk around the 80 acres, hang out in hammocks, take in the starry night with a fire in one of many fire pits and enjoy the festive lights hanging in the trees and around the cabin.

The Little Retreat in the Forest is private, quiet and secluded and includes a simple, beautiful house in the woods.

It’s the perfect place if you want to unplug! The pressures of life are gone, it’s quiet, there’s nothing to do, and no sounds except nature and the sound of the wind.

Let the energy of the forest restore you. Sit and listen to the aspen and poplar trees, watch for birds, look at wildflowers and walk our kilometers of trails.  And if you are looking for beach time, Lake Winnipeg isn't far (you can drive in 4 minutes, bike in 20 (we provide the bikes too!) or even walk it, down to the end of the road where you will be secluded at the Lake at the end of our Road). We also have a huge pond we had made (see our photos!)

For us, “the Forest” is a bit of a vision I suppose of escape! When you need to just wipe everything away for a bit and just restore, just you and your loved ones or by yourself, and just let whatever comes to you come to you! It’s not in a beach town, it’s not in a busy place, it’s off alone in nature. We believe in being in touch with more earth centered, tiny, minimalist and environmentally friendly and creative options for accommodations if we can. For now basically it’s a small house with way too many of all the suburban luxuries of our urban experience which sure are nice sometimes! I like to think it has all the feels of “Waldenness” as I call it, or a one room trappers cabin nestled in the forest somewhere far away and wherever your imagination takes you.

I imagine it is like you are off in Yellowknife or the Wilderness somewhere without all the travelling! You might even see the northern lights which Gimli, Manitoba is famous for :).

Maybe you’ll see we make some fun creative things around the land you are free to check them out, I don’t really have a big plan but I just like creating things: a school bus, retro trailers, a prospector tent and a tiny house, I use these when I come out just for fun! and for you to check out if you like. Sometimes when you aren’t there my family also comes out for a stay and we use them, it’s so seldom honestly :).

Out of sight of any road or other human, you can let yourself be taken away for a couple days or a week or however long to reconnect with the land and nature and yourself.

But it’s not just connecting with NATURE. It’s also connecting with YOURSELF and your loved ones. There’s my vinyl collection. And the turntable. And the eclectic collection of books, and medicinal teas to take home with you.

Everything about it to me is about escaping or reconnecting and revitalizing. Walk the trails in summer or winter, it’s a chance to restore and get grounded, chop some wood, make a fire, howl at the moon or skinny dip in the pond, your choice. It’s your canvas.

We wanted to create a place set away in a private forest as kind of an oasis to reset or stop time. We hope you’ll consider us for your next getaway.

A few guest reviews.

“Little Retreat in the Forest couldn't have a more accurate name! A lovely and cozy cabin in a peaceful setting. We enjoyed swimming in the pond, walking the trails, sitting by the fire and laying in the hammocks surrounded by nature. We also appreciated all the little musical touches - the vintage vinyl player, the guitar and banjo. It's the perfect place to relax. Thanks Michael, we would go back in a heartbeat!”

“This was the perfect spot for a creative retreat. The surrounding forest is beautiful, the cabin is cozy and beautifully decorated with a fun and eclectic style, and it’s an easy and quick drive from Winnipeg. We enjoyed snowshoeing, snuggling by the wood stove, and little jaunts into Gimli. We knew it would be great from other reviews but it was definitely even better than we expected!”

“The Little Retreat in the Forest was great, exactly what we needed. Whether we were cozied up by the fire, cooking homemade meals, playing crib or out snowshoeing the trails, it was perfect. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need to cook a gourmet meal. We really enjoyed the idea of paying it forward by keeping the cabin clean, chopping wood for future guests and shoveling the decks. It's nice to see such a small space have a big impact on your overall outlook on what is really important in life.”
