Home

Restore and retreat to a serene and secluded slice of forest heaven that dreams are made of. I love this place and I am am sure you will too. Many guests tell us they are sad to have to leave!

It is a simple, beautiful house on 80 acres of secluded spruce and aspen forest with wild grasses and wildflowers.┬áThe house has all the modern day comforts but as John Prine directed, I threw out the TV čÖé but kept the guitar and banjo lol (seriously!).

I did however, equip the house with Wifi. There are 2 decks to choose from, depending on whether you are wanting sun or shade throughout the day.  At night I love to cozy up inside with a nice fire in the woodstove.

It was an old trappers cabin and I have tried to keep the look and feel of the old trappers cabin it once was, even hung up a few old traps. And really, before hydro and running water, it was occupied by an old trapper!

On the 80 acres you will find several ponds, trails (bring your hiking boots and rubber boots!) and you might see deer roaming around – the perfect getaway from the daily grind.┬áRumour has it there was even trout in the pond according to locals who used to fish here as a kid.

Nestled back off a gravel road, just a 10 min drive to Gimli and a 2 min drive to the closest beaches at the end of the road on Lake Winnipeg, it is perfect for those seeking serenity, nature walks, camping, wild grasses, hammocks, the fire pits, the tipi, snowshoeing or listening to the birds and hugging the trees.

The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Enjoy private forest trails, relax in front of the wood stove or just enjoy being immersed in nature amidst the boreal forest.

The Space
The setting is serene and what dreams are made of. On the 80 acres you will find several ponds and trails (bring your hiking boots and rubber boots!).

I would like to add more trails, more cabins and next year I plan to add a yurt. I also plan to add a trailer away from the main cabin for a secluded stay for part of your group. Last year I put in a new campsite, a tipi by the main cabin pond that a friend of traditional Cree Indigenous backrgound taught me how to put up, and also dug out expanded ponds and a hill west of the cabin!

And we have plans for adding a cobb oven near the cabin next year.

Eventually I would like to expand the trails, add a yoga platform by the cabin pond, an art space in the garage, and add a tiny house farther back in the woods or by the pond.

Guest access
The house, front and back decks and 80 acres are all yours to explore. We are still mapping out the land, but I haven’t bumped into anyone back there yet on one of my hikes. I love the place in summer or winter, in winter it is equally beautiful and great for snowshoeing or close to the renowned ski trails of Camp Morton. In summer check out the shores of Lake Winnipeg and the Monastery at Camp Morton or go for a drive to Gimli or Riverton and other close by towns.

Guest interaction
You can be completely on your own in utter privacy, or one of my trusted friends can drop in from a nearby town if you need something. In winter we get the road plowed by our great neighbour with a bobcat and a construction company so you don’t get snowed in!

Neighborhood overview
Your closest neighbors are about an 1/8th of a mile away on either side so I don’t imagine you will have much interaction with them.

Other things to note
The morning pink hue in the sky at sunrise is absolutely stunning, as are the beautiful stars, milky way and the northern lights at the end of the driveway if you get to see them (depending upon the time of year!).

Additional rules
This space is very special to me and is my favourite place on earth. I acquired the land to preserve it, watch it evolve and grow into a nature preserve to explore, protect and share. I want to share this forest paradise with respectful folks who want to treat the land and the house as if it were their own. I’d like people to chop wood, do outdoorsy things and gardening if you choose, whatever makes you fully experience the beauty of the natural landscape.
