The Vision of the Forest

I love this place and I am sure you will too. It is a simple, beautiful house in the woods which we call the Forest because that’s what it is to us. The place is more about the energy of the forest and the trees, and almost like the house is a plus. Some of our guests have said they’ve had transformative life changing experiences, or healed faster, or slept like they haven’t in years. I think that’s a testament to the power of nature and being alone in the woods, which we don’t get to do because we’ve become disconnected from nature in our fast-paced lives.

There is something amazing about the Forest, I guess it’s thanks to the quiet and seclusion of the place. And I know that you will love it because it is private, quiet, and secluded and I will keep it that way. The place is exactly what I was looking for in a cabin in the woods in all its ‘Waldenness’ to find a place where I could feel like I was back in the north of Manitoba and its wilds, but close enough to the city until we make a complete exodus from the city.

The Vibe.

I have tried to keep the look and feel of the old, one room trapper’s cabin it once was. When we found it, it had been renovated and updated to include water and electricity. It always had a good interior to start from to give it the earthy, cozy essence it still has now. Rumour has it that it was once lived in by an old trapper and I have heard an old fella used to live out here without running water. There are a lot of interesting, hardy ‘live of the land’ self sufficient type folks out in Manitoba’s Interlake, and we try and capture all of that in everything we do.

I wanted to share it with guests to stay on Airbnb not only to help pay for it but to pay it forward. It’s become a labour of love for us, curating a place where you can come have the magical experiences you dream of. You can wander the trails, unplug and disconnect (even though I have great wifi haha) and enjoy nature and the sounds and scents of the Forest. It is not a hotel or resort, there's those out there for ya, but it does have the best soaps, plush towels, new bedding and the best mattresses, and of course an outdoor clawfoot bathtub if you're into relaxing with a bubble bath outside in summer.

You probably have a pup with you too if you are outdoorsy, so it was important to us to make it pet friendly. And of course, last, and probably most important is a very amazing Norwegian woodstove with a supply of firewood in the woodshed for you to split and pay it forward to the next guests and get on your inner lumberjack.

Escaping the City.

In your temporary exodus from the city, think the comforts of a small house with the nestled feeling of a small cabin in the woods with no neighbours in sight, your own trails to explore, an amazing swimming pond and ‘beach’, campsite, and a number of fire pits. We’ve included a whole lot of whimsical and backwoods flair around and magical lights at night. I like to think that your reasons for staying here are a lot like my reasons; for finding, preserving and being creative with the place. To preserve the forest and the natural surroundings and the forest medicines, to be as much like a northern trapper or a prairie homesteader and live more off the land as possible, to seek some solace and disconnection from urban and everything electronic, but with whimsical and magical reminders of the essence of life.
